Long distance spurdog and tope

Just recently we have had tags returned for two long distance swimming sharks.

The first was a spurdog which was originally tagged on 12/06/2009 off the Isle of Whithorn and recaptured 16/03/2011 by a professional fishing crew (FV Milagre (PE-3157-C), while using trammel nets off the Portuguese West coast.

The second was a tope, originally tagged 08/05/2009 in Luce Bay and recaptured in early April by a commercial fisherman from the fishing port of Caleta de Vélez (Vélez-Málaga, Málaga, Spain) fishing in the waters off the province of Malaga, Spain.

These two recaptures once again show the value of the Scottish Shark Tagging Programme and also just how much there is to learn about the movements of these sharks.
