The UK is currently under the influence of a deep area of Low Pressure which is forecast to move NE across the country over the next few days. As a result Strong winds and Gales are expected to hit SW Scotland over the course of Thursday night and Friday morning. The winds are then expected to decrease as the weather system moves through.
On the basis of this forecast and in the interest of angler safety the organisers of Sharkatag are therefore cancelling the event on Friday 15th June.
We anticipate that the weather will allow the event to proceed on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th as planned – a further update will be issued at midday on Thursday when an updated weather forecast is available.
Fishing has been very good in the past few days with large numbers of Tope have been caught in Luce Bay, there has also been good sized Spurdog and Bullhuss off Isle of Whithorn and Smoothounds on crab baits in Wigton Bay and Ardwell areas so it is hoped that the weather will settle to allow Saturday and Sunday to allow participants to get out and get some of this fantastic fishing.
Registrations will still be open at the usual times and places …. 7.30-9.00pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Brighouse Bay Caravan Site clubhouse, The Steam Packet Inn at the Isle of Whithorn and the Clashwannon Caravan Site clubhouse Drumore and 7.30am-9.00am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the slip at Brighouse Bay Caravan Site, The slip at Isle of Whithorn and the north side of Drumore Harbour.
You can come register and fish when the weather improves ….. remember that you can fish when you like and from where you like over the weekend but please make sure you do so safely.
The organisers cannot accept liability for your safety – boat skippers and their crew must make up their own mind on any safety or boating matters.
We look forward to some improving weather and great fishing over the weekend.
