Supporting Marine Scotland Science

James with PhD student Michelle

Marine Scotland Science’s analysis of the skate data has shown a 5% migration through the corridors between the Sound of Jura, Firth of Lorne and the Sound of Mull.

In an attempt to help understand the make up of the skate populations and assess their site fidelity, migration routes and see if fish from other areas showed identical or different DNA profiles, fish were targeted in Loch Aline, Duarts Point and the Firth of Lorne.

Ten skate, including two over the 200lb mark were fin clipped and tagged, some of which were fitted with electronic tags, the remained with SSTP tags.

Francis Neat of Marine Scotland Science was assisted by James and PhD student Michelle (both above).
